Frank's hacked email account aka "Let's have fun with our 419 friends..."

A relaxing moment.
It all started with the receipt of an email from a Chinese friend of mine

Hope you get this on time, Sorry I didn't inform you about my trip to Spain for a program, and am having some difficulties here because i misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money, credit card and cell were kept. Presently my passport and my things are been held down by the hotel management pending when i make payment.

I need you to help me with a loan of (2,600 Euro = 3,300 Dollars) to pay my hotel bills and to get myself back home. I've been to the embassy and Police, but they are not responding to the matter effectively, I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me with, I will return the money back to you as soon as i return, let me know if you can be of any help? ASAP. I don't have a phone where i can be reached. I am so confused right now. please let me know immediately. Thanks

Frank

Two weird things : English was too good and the return email address had a 1-character difference (an L instead of an I).
And what about the size of the wallet to hold a 3310 Nokia phone!

Dear Frank,

Poor you ! Of course I'm willing to help you. - Hey! I'm not going to let down an old scammer friend!)
Can you give me some details for the 2600 euros as it seems expensive for a hotel bill ? - However I want some explanation about such an amount...)
Also let me know where to send the money.

Regards,

G.

The answer arrives within minutes :

Georges

Frank

Ah !

You got an address in Spain now ? Who cares it is an English school ?
And Madrid or Valencia, seen at the galaxy level that makes no difference.
What a surprise! How did he go from Madrid (Spanish Ambassy) to Valencia ?
And sending money thru Western Union, what a refreshing idea!
Well, still let's answer but, tough luck, I am in a wheelchair...

Hello Frank,

As you know, being in a wheelchair I cannot go to a Western Union office so please give me the hostel IBAN account and I will do an online bank transfer.

Regards,

G.

Surprinsingly I receive following answer, as is, not a word less, not a word more :

what is going on? am still looking forward to read from you.

OK, one won't let's down willing people when one meets one. I thus answer:

I replied yesterday (see below). Do you get so many emails from friends to help you that you overlooked mine ? If so, I guess you don't need my assistance.

Ah !

Must have switch his brain cells back! But he doesn't raise an eyebrow that I'm in a wheelchair. Friends can be ungrateful sometimes... :

Bon, petit intermède, je passe à autre chose

OK, a pause for a moment. I switch to something else :

Hello Frank,

I tried to call you on your cellular phone but a lady who doesn't speak english answered.

Have you changed your number ?

Regrads,

Geo

As a good soldier, our scammer friend writes back :

Hi Georges,

Have been waiting to hear back from you...i thought you don't wan't to help me anymore..have not change my number i told you am not with any phone right here in spain..Please let me know if you are still going to send the money...I'll be waiting to hear back from you as soon as possible.

Thanks

Franks

Let's keep it rolling, but let's also change the story a little bit, like in 1984, I switch my firstname from Georges to Gérard, I invent a common friend who is supposedly trying to help him too and I also try to explain our scammer friend that it will be tough to get the cash from WU if he doesn't have his passport :

Hello Franks,

Then you phone must have been stolen by a Chinese women. Who do you think we can trust these days ?

Our friend Li Dameng (notre ami commun imaginaire... - our imaginary common friend...) sent me a mail about your situation thinking I was near Valencia (he obviously doesn't know geography) and when I told him it was not so he said he would be sending the money to you. Has he done so ?

If not I'll see how I can do it but I was thinking that without a passport you would not be able to get the money from a Western Union or MoneyGram office anyway so can you send me the hotel bill and I'll settle it directly with the hotel.
It will also be safer for you as otherwise you might get it stolen too ! Or I can send the money to the Chinese Ambassy in Valencia. What do you think ?

Please advise quickly.

Gérard

Hello Franks,
I tried to call you on your cellular phone but a lady who doesn't speak english answered.
Have you changed your number ?
Regrads,

Not worried that I changed my firstname and that an imaginary common friend drops into the story, our scammer answers:

no he as not send me any money.

I'd be surprised if he had ! Damn Li Dameng, can't trust him! ;-)
However, not a word about my settling the bill directly with the hotel. Our scammer friend loves cash.
I'm not going to drop the hook so easily :

Hello Franz, (Franz, si tu me litz... - Franz, if you Litz me...)

What do you think of my settling the bill directly with the hotel ? Please give me the IBAN number.

I don't really want a meeting (French slang : rencard) with the scammer...)

But what does our scammer friend want ? Cash! :

Please the only way you can settle the bills is that you should send the money via western union because the hotel manager said he can't drop any of the hotel account he's really mad at me...Please just let me know if you can send the money..

Hey man, tu fais chier avec ton cash.

Hey man, you're getting on my tits with your cash. Not everything revolves around Lagos' Western Union Office! Still, let's try to settle the issue. I do everything I can to help poor old Frank (or is-it Franks or Franz...) :

Franz,

Not accepting a bill settlement through bank transfer is illegal in Spain as it is all over Europe. - I have no clue but neither has he...)
Let me know the hotel name and address I will get the manager prosecuted (or at least put under such severe fiscal investigation that he'll regret his mother gave birth to him) thru Ele64986na 575589Sal188923gad950039o M985452end848418ez430944 who is a close friend of my ex-wife. - Ele849221na 325959Sal114811gad305853o M163291end703625ez664517 is the Spanish Minister of Finances. Not only am I in a wheelchair but I'm even married now... next I'll tell him I was bitten by the dog.)

The reason this crook wants cash is to escape taxes but all he's gona get is being hanged by his balls till they turn square. (ça doit faire mal ça... that must be painful...)
Elena will be only too pleased to set an example to the tourist industry especially since, as a Chinese citizen, you deserve all attention from the Spanish economy.
In the process she will get you out of the mess you are in.

Please give me the details by return so we can solve your problem in no time.
I suggest you stay in your hotel room so the MEH people can locate you and get you back to China without problem.
By the way which room number are you in ? - as if anyone cares...)

I don't really want to drink a Ricard with our scammer friend...)

Gérard

A very succinct answer arrived :

why don't you make use of western union the easiest and fastest way to receive money world wide. pls advice.

OK, back to WU paiements. But I resist and start behaving like a lunatic:

Franz,

You're not very talkative, my fiend. (notice the missing "r"...)

How do you think I can go to the western union office in my wheel chair ?
You've seen me, you know I'm pretty much stuck in my top floor apartment !
Besides the dog chew one of the wheels (a small one, the wheel, not the dog) so the chair keeps spinning now !
I could ask the butler to go to the WU office but you've seen the guy, he'd take half the money for himself, the little sod.

By the way, Li Dameng mailed me saying he could not get the amount you wanted.
With the job he has, I'd be surprised if he could even raise 10% and I understand why he turned to me about your conditions the other day.

Please let me have the hotel name and address. May be I can even talk to you when I call them if you're still there.
Elena will send her mignons to the hotel as soon as you give the details.

VB's best (VB's an Australian beer...)

Gérard

Obviously our scammer frind loves WU. I wonder why ?

but u can atleast send someone on your behalf.

Before I could answer, I receive another answer:

Have already given you the hotel address..i don't have access to a phone if you can go and send the money by your self then send someone who can go to the Western Union and help me to send the money...Have been having lot of hard times here you need to do something else because i which u where here and see the way am living right now.Just send someone else....

Let's anwer the first one first and, again, let's change my firstname from Gérard to Bertrand:

Fonzie,

Who else but the butler ?

Bertrand

Now let's answer the second message.

You've given me the hotel address ? Nope! But who care about the hotel address when I could send the money thru WU! How little scammer friend is like a walking advertisement for WU...
I can't resist answering without reference to WU. I also take the opportunity to change his firstname too but forgot to change mine. Oh, well...:

Hello Fonzie,

I must have missed your message with the hotel address (and name). Please provide again as this will end your wanderings immediately.
Ele597684na 951541Sal226106gad642351o M221693end65694ez784541 from Madrid is awaiting the information too. If need be, you may contact her secretary at sugerencias.portal@meh.es who can provide immediate assistance.

Take Courage,

Gérard, your wheeled friend.

Anyway, our little friend still come back with shorter answer but more and more to the point:

Please are you not sending the money again?

And in an attempt to please he even gives me the hotel address, except there is no hotel at that address...:

Address: 153 Rambla Del Raval, Barcelona, 08001 Country- Spain

Well, let's invent an hotel at that address and ask our scammer friend if that's the one. Just buying time... :

Hello Fonzie,

Is-it "El Albergue Español" hotel ?
Please advise.

Bertrand

However, I had also been in contact with Yahoo! about this issue of hacked account and they have obviously dropped the fake account chexlng_2000@yahoo.com and I received the following message from Yahoo!:

<chexlng_2000@yahoo.com>: host yahoo.com[66.94.236.34] said: 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.com account (chexlng_2000@yahoo.com) [-5] - mta1183.mail.mud.yahoo.com

As I thought one unique conversation wasn't enough, I had started a second one in parallel under the name "Paul O'Chon" (sounds like "Polochon", meaning Pillow in French) who, supposedly, is CEO of the imaginary Lou325564is 343549Vui915550tto390551n919138 Animal Jewelry Co and who started the new business of selling jewelry dog collars for Lou104473is 340591Vui904590tto952892n771535 (Vcard attached to email with LV address on the Champs-Elysées and telephone number of the booth in front of the real Lou810881is 847344Vui943847tto32186n330769 store. Not only that but Paul O'Chon had supposedly visited Frank recently and he had lost his walker at the airport in China! :

Hello Old Mate,

It's been such a long time. How are you doing lately ?

I've been so busy setting up that new business.
It's really running fine and generates so much cash.
It's just amazing seeing people buying these collars like they were hotcakes !
Not sure the dogs are half as happy as their masters, wearing those collars, though...
Anyway, many thanks for helping me locate the supplier. This guy is doing a great job.
Hope you can come overe here and see it for yourself.
As usual, we'll be sending the airplane tickets.

How is the family ?
I was glad to stay at your place last time and meet with your wife and kids.
Let me know if the kids need something, I'll be pleased to oblige.

By the way, did I leave my walker behind ?
I can't remember having it at the airport but it was such a rush I can't even be sure how I got in the airplane in the first place !
Anyway, it was nowhere to be found at the arrival. Imagine the mess !

Give me some news soon !

Kind of best regards to you and the family.

Paul O'Chon

Our scammer friend saw an opportunity to hook a new fish there and sent his usual bait:

Hope you get this on time, Sorry I didn't inform you about my trip to Spain for a program, and am having some difficulties here because i misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money, credit card and cell were kept. No worries, Mate! Your good ol' friend "Pillow" (Paul O'Chon) is flying at your rescue and even gives you some piece of advise
I hope the Welsh forgive him for the loose translation... ;-) :

Hello Ol' Chap,

Oh my Godness ! What mess are you in ? And I thought I was the one to be pitied because I had lost my walker and had so much work !
You know money and credit card should always be kept in your underwear. You're pretty much unlikely to lose anything from there unless you're very unattentive in which case your misses might have a say about it !

You're pretty lucky though that we have shops all around the world. I'll see with one of our outlets closest to you that they have the required amount at your disposal. Let me know what's the most convenient place in Spain for you.

Have some tapas and sangria on me.

As the Welsh say : 'Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll Gogerych Wyrndrobwll Llantysilio Gogogoch' which means 'Good Luck'

Paul O'Chon

Not sure our scammer friend reads it all as he doesn't immediately ring the Western Union bell:

Please can you help me with the money...let me know as soon as possible,I'll be waiting to hear back from you soon.

Let's make sure he reads thoroughly my message. But let's call our friend Francisco :

Hello Francisco,

Yes, sure I can help. This is what I was saying in my previous message.
Are you OK or do you still have sights problems ?

Let's the rooster rock !

Paul O'Chon

Well, sure enough our friend comes back with WU:

Thanks for your response and concern towards my present situation. Please, it will be helpful if you can send the money to me through Western Union Money Transfer. Here is the information you should send the money to..I would have love to call you but i don't have money to pay for a phone call even to eat am just staving here.

Receivers Name: Xing Che
Address: Calle Postas 17, 28012 Madrid, Spain

Thank you very much, I truly appreciate this rare kind gesture of yours. Kindly forward the information given to you as it will facilitate my collecting the money over here since I will have to pay for my hotel bills in cash. Looking forward to hear from you soonest.

Ok, I need to keep him away from WU so I write back with a better proposal. Well, better for me.
Incidentally, the Chinese password I ask him to supply means "I'm an arsehole" which, considering he is a scammer is only the truth and nothing but the truth!
And, again, may the Welsh forgive Paul... ;-) :

Hello dear fiend (notice the missing "r"...)

Since I see you are in Madrid, the easiest, fastest and cheapest way for both of us to get the money is that you go to our shop in Madrid :
Lou756458is 999888Vui179991tto82418n114700
El Corte Ingles,
Raimundo Fernandez Villaverde 79,
28003 Madrid
Telephone : +34 914 170 690

Please ask to talk to the manager : Naj485844at 245710Ber818326kou150362at843394
The manager will hand over the sum of 3500 euros in cash immediately.

and when asked for it, please tell her it is Paul O'Chon who sent you and provide Naj769867at376468 the following password : 我是一个鸡巴白痴 (I thought it would be easier for you to use a Chinese password)
Please write down (or print) the password since Najat can't read Chinese so she will compare with this email.

Please let me know how it goes.

As the Welsh say: "A ddwg wy a ddwg fwy" which loosely means "He who can climb a mountain, can climb two"

Paul O'Chon

But, where do you think our scammer friend wants the money ? Yes, you got it! At a WU office!

Thanks i prefer you send the money becuase i don't wanna assusciate with any person in spain...That the only way you could help me...just do it for me by sending the money to the address i gave you..I'll surely refund the money as soon as i get back home..you should understand what i mean..

Oh yes, I know what you mean! However, Paul is a little stubborn and he writes back:

Hello,

If you have problems with the Spanish people after what happened to you, I can understand.
But fear not! Naj485745at991561 isn't Spanish at all! She only works in Spain!
Have confidence in Naj442162at270287 that's a very reliable person!
In fact you will never get less Spanish than Najat. Any Western Union office in Madrid is bound to be full of Spanish clerks!
Anyway, Najat already has the cash waiting for you so take courage Old Fiend ! (notice, again, the missing "r"... As for Take Courage, it is an old advertisement for an English beer ;-) )

Paul O'Chon

Our scammer friend take it personal:

I can see u are not ready to help...alaimore

But Daddy Paul thinks otherwise:

How can you say I'm not willing to help when the money is readily at your disposal in Madrid ?

Do you have problems going to Raimundo Fernandez Villaverde 79 ? It's within walking distance from Calle Postas 17. (I bloody don't know either places, how could I know how far away they are ? ;-) )
I'm pretty much surprised by your position. What's wrong with you ?

Paul O'Chon

Unfortunately, I never got a reply since Yahoo! dropped the fake email account.
Too bad, it was fun...
